On Thursday morning we held our Harvest Festival service at St Marys Church, Gainford. Revd. Eileen Harrop welcomed all to church to share in this service of thanksgiving. The staff and pupils had worked very hard preparing their contributions for the service.
Class Swale shared their pictures of autumn and proudly walked down the aisle with their wonderful work on display for all to see. They sang their songs, ‘Picture of Autumn’ and ‘Thank God for Harvest ‘and it was a sheer delight to see our youngest children standing at the front of church and singing so well.
Class Wear had been learning about harvest around the world and shared their work all about about different countries and the food they produce. They didn’t look nervous at all.
Class Tees shared The Story of Ruth with all children reading their individual parts and through their thoughtfully written prayers they reminded us to be thankful for the food and produce that we have in our homes and to remember those less fortunate than themselves. Both of our junior classes delivered two wonderful songs Conkers a firm favourite!) and Harvest Samba which had been quite a tricky one to learn!
Sarah Fells, the Children, Young people and Families Missioner from church, worked with a new Worship Leaders group on a wonderful dramatization of the Parable of the Sower. They all performed so well.
I really must thank all of the adults who have worked with our children to prepare for the service and for all of our friends from church too. A huge thank you to all of our school families for sending in donations. For such a small school the tables in church were so full of your kind donations; these will be shared between Butterwick Hospice and The Well food bank.
Many thanks to Freddie’s granddad, John, for supplying us with an ENORMOUS onion from his allotment too!
